CMJ 2011: Main Attrakionz, Class Actress, The Knocks, Lissy Trullie, Keepaway, College Day
…and a few more from this year’s CMJ.
It seemed like Main Attrakionz played about 50 shows a night during the marathon, and yet, I didn’t get a chance to catch any of them. My biggest CMJ regret. Still, I’m glad I got to shoot with them and talk about their unique brand of West Coast hip-hop.
This one is a combination of New York-based bands. Class Actress makes what she describes “futuristic 80s pop” and proclaims her love for Janet Jackson. The Knocks make dance music and, along with Lissy Trullie, seem to embody the downtown-cool aesthetic.
More after the jump.

Newtown Radio: Mister Melt
That’s M-I-S-T-E-R Melt, not Mr. Melt… Check out this session I helped shoot with the lo-fi rock duo with a penchant for matching outfits on stage. Here they pulled out their “Newtown Radio Energy Suits” which look somewhat like Colonel Sanders costumes.
CMJ 2011: Highlights & The Stepkids
Here are two more from CMJ!
Highlights, including an interview with Zola Jesus and rock photographer Tony Mott. I also got to stop by KEXP’s live broadcast from the Ace Hotel and speak with host Cheryl Waters.
The Stepkids (I can’t take credit for the editing on this). The Stepkids are an awesome band with a retro-psychedelic sound and a pretty crazy light show. Definitely one of my favorite discoveries during the marathon.
